Transforming global healthcare systems through local partnerships

Launching Movimiento Salud 2030 with Roche Pharmaceuticals

Roche Pharmaceuticals was looking to positively impact health outcomes in Latin America. They called upon Board of Innovation to help them create and launch a long-term collaborative network dedicated to building a sustainable healthcare system on the continent: Movimiento Salud 2030 – or Movement Health 2030.

Challenge

Enhancing Latin American healthcare with a global innovation approach

There is still a lot of room for improvement and optimization in Latin American healthcare systems. Roche Pharmaceuticals wanted to give energy to healthcare innovations and solutions, to address the challenges at hand through local partnerships. They were looking to create impact in Latin America that could also help tackle major health challenges around the world.

To achieve that goal, we set out to codesign and implement a long-term collaborative network, to engage a wide variety of stakeholders and drive impactful innovation in the industry.

Sound familiar? We can help.

Approach

A grassroot network to catalyse new innovative solutions

The goal of Movement Health 2030 is to establish people-centric, sustainable and scalable solutions with a tangible impact on healthcare systems in Latin America. Launching transformative and sustainable innovation in healthcare is no easy task, given the fragmentation of current healthcare systems.

This significant systemic weakness means that the industry relies on the coordination of countless stakeholders from a wide range of backgrounds. Movement Health 2030 aims to tackle this issue, by creating an integrated grassroot network to catalyse the development of new solutions to promote sustainable change.

Continuous collaboration is the cornerstone of the movement. It helps the partners within our network advance innovations and create room for positive dialogue and interaction with the communities involved.

Local organizations are sought out and engaged within every region, including healthcare providers, governments, policymakers, start-ups, research institutions and innovation experts.

Movement Health 2030 members envision a future of healthcare solutions that make better lifestyle an opportunity for all. During the pandemic, companies, experts, innovators, and governments have found unprecedented ways of working together that are here to stay. Movement members leverage the strengths of each other to test and scale the opportunities to modernize healthcare with a human-centered perspective

impact

A worldwide glocal
network on the rise

The new health network was created in 2020, with the launch of a series of innovation challenges in Latin America. These challenges sought to find new ways to improve the continuity of care for patients with morbidity. At present, we are selecting high-potential start-ups in nine countries to join an incubation and acceleration programme, which will give them access to funding, local partnerships, mentorship, and innovation coaching. This will speed up the development of these start-ups, and allow them to scale their solutions to reach new markets.

With the movement’s launch in Latin America, we learned that it is crucial to adapt the Movement to each region’s priorities at country level. Movement Health 2030 can only thrive with a glocal philosophy, creating concrete local impact while stimulating broader systemic change on a global level. This means stimulating local stakeholders to identify innovation focus areas and support them through the launch of pilot programmes and the scaling of solutions, while also developing a global strategy to scale internationally, and grow the movement.

This year, we will remain focused on scaling the Movement Health 2030 network in Africa, Europe, and the middle east.
