In 2013, Thomson Reuters initiated a strategic plan that puts innovation at the very core of the corporate growth strategy. As a result of this drive, the Catalyst Fund was founded in 2014. Any of the 60,000 employees of Thomson Reuters have the chance to propose innovative business concepts.

The most valuable business concepts move through the Catalyst Fund and access to funds. A panel comprised of the CEO and five executives comes together once a month to listen to pitches and evaluate the ideas presented.

Board of Innovation was called to coach the members of the most valuable projects to enhance the strength of the business propositions and empower all the participants with intrapreneurial capabilities.

Solution

Startup simulations and 1-to-1 coaching to build up a corporate intrapreneurial engine.

Board of Innovation is now running a yearly intrapreneurship culture program for 10 selected teams of the Catalyst Fund, the goal is to break barriers within Thomson Reuters to bring to market, quickly and efficiently, innovative products that are relevant to customers.

The coaching program mixes 1-to-many sessions of Lean Startup, to build entrepreneurial capabilities, with extensive 1-to-1 team coaching, aimed to empower the corporate startups with specific guidance. The first is being delivered through three 1-day events in New York, London and Dallas, and the second through remote coaching.

The coaching platform is acting as a multiplier of the Catalyst Fund, as a learning platform to grow the intrapreneurial trait of its participants, and to build a future-proof class of managers.
